Bacon Academy Boys Lacrosse traveled to Granby for the season opener on March 31st. The Bobcats battled the Bears through 4 quarters, losing a tough contest with a final score of 5 - 7.
Bacon struck first in the opening quarter. Ethan Cuadro took a pass from Dylan Heald and found the back of the net at the 9:51 mark. Granby scored 2 minutes later to tie it at 1 each. Bacon scored next as Heald fired a shot into goal to take a 2-1 lead with less than 3 minutes left in the quarter. Granby was able to tally 2 more goals before the quarter ended, and the teams entered the 2nd quarter with Granby holding a 3-2 lead.
Freshman Kellen Paparella scored the first goal of his Bacon career at the 8:20 mark of the 2nd quarter. The Bears then ran off 3 unanswered goals to end the 2nd with a score of 3 - 6. Both Defenses stood strong in the 3rd quarter, with neither team finding the net. Bacon's stingy D is led by Captain Jonah McNaughton, Casy Hart, Evan Bradstreet, Jake Cavallo, Dan Komoroski, Jon-Mike Murray, Sean Newton, and Freshmen Blaine Baillargeon and David Talbot.
Granby scored first to open the 4th and took a convincing 3 - 7 lead. The Bobcat's Kellen Paparella scored the final 2 goals, giving the Freshman a very memorable first game hat-trick and making the final score 5 - 7. Kyle Denker had a strong game in goal, saving 12 shots while allowing just 7 scores.
