Bacon Academy welcomed the Morgan Huskies from Clinton to Bobcat Field for the 2017 home opener. For the 2nd straight game, the Bobcats jumped out to a commanding first half lead, and for the 2nd straight game the team had to hold on for a thrilling 8-7 win. With less than 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Bacon held a 7-2 advantage. Morgan scored 5 goals in under 7 minutes to pull within 1. Senior Captain Tony Tyler's second goal of the game with 4 minutes left to play proved to be the eventual game winner and Bacon held the 1 goal lead to start the season 2-0.
Tyler Christianson found the back of the net twice and Bobby Parker and Dylan Heald also connected on goals for Bacon. LSM (Long Stick Middie) Jonah McNaughton excelled on both defense and offense, creating several turnovers while dishing out an assist. Middies Nick Wright, Ian Carey and Connor Elmy put in the tough work, winning ground balls and moving the Bobcats offense towards the opposition's goal.
The Freshmen came up big again. Casey Hart scored his first goal as a Bobcat and added two assists, Ethan Cuadro tallied a goal and an assist, and Kyle Denker recorded his 2nd win while making 12 saves in Goal.
The defense, led by Seniors Brian Egan, Eli Healy, Julian Lindo and Josh Atchison held Morgan to just 1 first half goal.
